Splashing our Way Through Hue, Part 2

Continuing through the Imperial Citadel, we made our way to the Royal Theater.

With some prompting from others in the tour group, Danny obliged us a photo.

After a quick walk through of the Imperial museum, it was time for lunch! We had noodle soup, fried spring rolls, roasted chicken, clay pot fish, morning glory, shrimp omelette and fruit.

After lunch we proceeded to the tomb of Vietnam’s second king…

…and twelfth king, considered the puppet king, was very flashy in terms of personality and tomb construction, borrowing from French design.

From there we made our way to an incense village, where incense is still made by hand. This place made cinnamon, lemongrass, and sandalwood incense, many in the group agreeing lemongrass was the best scented.

After chilling in the hotel for a bit, it was time for dinner and Hanh’s. As you can see, I’m very happy for my passionfruit juice. We had Nem Lui (pork skewers and wrap), Chao Hai San (rice porridge with shrimp), Banh Khoai (rice pancake), Banh Loc, and passionfruit flan.

Nature decided to spice things up during dinner and started an increasingly heavier downpour, which I think contributed to our mid-meal power outage, which phased everyone in he restaurant for about two seconds. Also, proof that it’s a small world, the couple at the right of the picture is from the Bay Area and was part of our tour group earlier, and we ate at the same place by coincidence.

Nature wasn’t done with us yet…

Needless to say, the hair dryer got a good workout tonight drying the laundry from the prior day and all of the stuff tonight that was soaked. Tomorrow brings a train ride to Dong Hoi and our stay at Phong Nha Farmstay, crossing fingers we can still do the cave tour.
