Off to see the wizard
Our first full day in Munich has us promptly leaving Munich to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, near Füssen, a two hour train ride outside of Munich.
There’s two ways up to the castle, a leisurely horse carriage ride or a bus. We chose option three, a good hike up to the top.
You can see the Alpsee Lake off in the distance, quite the view.
This is the castle that is the inspiration for the Disney castle, and nearby you can walk across the Marienbrücke Bridge to get views of the castle and the surrounding area.
Sadly, they didn’t allow photos on the tour inside, so these will have to suffice. The planned throne room was very cool, with murals all over and a ridiculous chandelier encrusted with jewels.
I leave you with a lovely sunset from the train, on our way back to Munich. Tomorrow is Oktoberfest!
