Eating like gods
Today’s post will be mostly a food update. Breakfast was a very large breakfast of many things. Breakfast consisted of grilled fish cakes, egg, fish, pickles, tuna salad, porridge, nori, yogurt, tofu, miso soup, orange juice, and kiwi.

After breakfast, we definitely had a food coma, so we knocked out for an hour nap, before heading to the Dogo Onsen annex for our first bath of the day. We got a private room, which we could relax in after our bath. I spent most of my bathing in the open air bath, as it was the least draining heat-wise. Upon returning to our private room, we had complimentary tea and sweets (we had yuzu and matcha).

After bathing, we roamed the shops for more sweets, sampling a few of their local citrus sherbert/sorbets.
More downtime in our room followed, then we had our second bath of the day at the Dogo Onsen main building. Unfortunately, they are undergoing renovations, so we could only use their smaller bath.
More food followed. I got some sake soft serve (definitely strong flavor on that). And, despite it only being an hour before dinner, we got more food. I had an udon pot with a fried red bean dessert, and my friends were smarter and only got the dessert.

After more rest, it was time for the big meal of the day!

This room was huge!
Initial place setting
Tofu 2 ways (one soft, one firm)
Fish w/ tofu skin
Sashimi (maguro, squid, olive flounder, and we didn’t figure out the last one)
Sukiyaki (w/ raw egg dipping sauce)
Bamboo w/ miso and conch

Fried fish and eggplant
Miso and fish paste, pickles, soup and rice
Honeydew.
Now that we’ve digested, we’ll be off to our last soak of our stay here and some mikan sorbet afterward. Tomorrow we’re off on another long train ride to Kyoto. I leave you with a nice decoration outside the restaurant we ate at in our hotel tonight. Thanks for reading.
