Quiet calm

For our last day in Nagoya, we took a day trip out to Tsu. This was a bit of nostalgia for one of my friends, as she lived and worked here for a couple of years.

Tsu is very much a quieter place, a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the cities visited on this trip.

After a bit of a late start, we rode our chain of trains to get out there. Due to our late start we weren’t able to get out to the restaurant we had chosen in time before they would close for their mid-day break. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we popped in to what we thought was a cafe by the now deserted train station, which turned out to be a floral craft shop.

My friend chatted with the shop owner, Kumi-San, who after more conversation about our lunch plan falling through, excitedly recommended us to another restaurant and even more excitedly offered to drive us. Next thing, we were off in her car and whisked off to the restaurant.

After we thanked her and say our goodbyes, we entered Unagi Restaurant Tanimoto and happily sat down for our set meal our new acquaintance recommended to us. The recommendation was a solid one and for this unagi lover, one of the best meals I’ve had here.

When we were done eating we made our way to the train station to get to my friend’s home away from home, Coucou Cafe, and to say hello to the proprietors there, who were very happy to see my friend. The cakes they make were so delicious and the hoji-cha milk tea is something I must recreate!

After several hours at the cafe, we made our way back to our hotel, where after more fitful sleep (not the best of beds we’ve had on the trip), we’ll be on our way tomorrow to Takayama and another ryokan! Good night and happy reading.
