Being One With the Stars
Our third day started much more quietly, with the chill from the Star Party at the visitor center fresh on our mind. Today was our half-day at the Grand Canyon, where we took a much easier hike on the South Kaibab Trail to Ooh Ahh Point.
After our hike, we decided to hit up the Mather Point Overlook, and was rewarded with yet another sweeping view.
After admiring the view, we hit the road to Page, AZ, where we had a tasty dinner at El Tapatio.
We had Molcajete (meat and mushrooms in a hot pot), a mixed plate of enchiladas and tamales, and chicken tortilla soup…along with a very tasty and dangerous margarita.
Upon finishing dinner, we headed to or AirBnb for some off the grid accommodations on a Navajo ranch, Shash Dine’, into a comfortable cabin.
Once the sun sets, there are no lights to speak of, other than what the sky gives you. For city folk such as myself, I have never truly seen the sky until yesterday at the Star Party at the Grand Canyon, but on this night it was even better, as it was just my friends and I under the stars with near total silence. It really gives you a sense of how small we really are, but also how awe-inspiring our universe is, knowing that we are one tiny dot amongst billions and billions.
For now, it’s time to sleep, for tomorrow we journey through the upper and lower Antelope Canyons. Wishing you a good (and cool) night.
